THINGS FOR YOU TO DO (and to NOT DO)
You should visit the artist in person.
See that the studio is clean and well maintained.
See that safety measures are in place.
Make sure you get along with the artist.
Get any questions you have answered.
Look over the artist's work.
Look at photos in the artist's portfolio.
If possible, look at finished work on other clients.
Try to make time to watch the artist work. (Be sure to get permission from the client being worked on as well as from the artist.)
Ask other clients about their experiences with the artist and the studio.
Make sure you get the tattoo or piercing that YOU want. The artist should gladly work with you on getting your design/placement just right for you.
Wear appropriate clothes for what you plan on getting.
Your clothing should make it easy to get to the area to be tattooed or pierced.
You may want to wear older clothes for a tattoo appointment. They could get ink on them.
Do NOT show up drunk or stoned. You will not be tattooed or pierced while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Do NOT expect to be tattooed or pierced if you are under-age without a parent present giving consent. Any reputable, professional artist will tell you the same.
